Vape savings calculator
See what vaping costs you a week, a month and a year, and what you'd keep by stopping.
What you spend, and what you'd save
| If you stop vaping, you keep | Amount |
|---|---|
| Every week | £17.50 |
| Every month | £76.09 |
| Every year | £913.13 |
| Over five years | £4,566 |
Of that, about £137.75 a year is the new vape duty and the VAT on it (522ml of liquid a year).
Based on £3.50 a pod. If that price is from before 1 October 2026, tick the box above and we'll add the duty.
Seeing the number can be a good reason to start. You don't have to stop overnight: cutting down step by step saves money from the first week, and every pod you don't buy counts.
If you used to smoke: going back to cigarettes is the one move to avoid, even if vaping now costs more. Stopping smoking was the big win. Your local Stop Smoking Service is free, and many now help people stop vaping too.
Does the calculator include the new vape duty?
Yes. If your price is from before 1 October 2026, tick the box and we add the Vaping Products Duty: 22p per ml plus VAT, which is 26.4p per ml. That's 53p on a 2ml pod and £2.64 on a 10ml bottle. Read how the vape tax works.
How we work it out
- Weekly spend = how many you use a week × the price of each one, plus a weekly share of what you spend on coils and devices.
- Monthly and yearly figures use 365.25 days a year, so they match a real calendar.
- The duty is 22p per ml, plus 20% VAT on it (26.4p per ml). If you tick the box, we add this to your price.
- We don't store anything you type. The sums happen on this page.
Common questions
How much does vaping cost a year in the UK?
It depends on what you vape and what you pay. As an example, 5 pods a week at £3.50 each is £17.50 a week, or about £913 a year. Since 1 October 2026 the new duty can add up to £2.64 for every 10ml of liquid. Put in your own figures above to see your total.
How much could I save if I stop vaping?
Everything you spend on vaping. The calculator shows it for a week, a month, a year and five years, using your own prices and including coils and devices if you add them. Many people find the yearly or five-year figure is the one that sticks, and the saving starts from day one.
Does cutting down save money too?
Yes. If you cut down gradually, you start saving from the first week: every pod or bottle you don't buy counts. Change how many you use a week to see the difference. Stepping down to a lower nicotine strength doesn't cost less on its own, because the duty is the same per ml.
Is anything I type stored?
No. The sums happen on this page, in your browser and on our server for that page only, and we don't keep what you type. We don't use cookies for the calculator, and you don't need an account to use it.
